This tip shows you how to make Notes R5 your default e-mail program in both Internet Explorer 5 for Windows and Netscape Communicator 4.7 for Windows.
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5
Choosing Notes as your e-mail program is relatively easy in Internet Explorer 5 (and these instructions pretty much apply to Internet Explorer 4, as well):
In Internet Explorer, choose Tools – Internet Options.
Click the Programs tab.
In the Internet Programs section, choose Lotus Notes from the drop-down list of e-mail programs.
Netscape Communicator 4.7
The instructions for Netscape are a bit more complicated:
Make sure Netscape isn’t running.
Locate the file NMAILMAN.DLL in your Notes executable directory (for example, C:\Notes) and copy it to your Netscape program directory (for example, C:\Program Files\Netscape\Communicator\Program)
Locate your PREFS.JS file in your Netscape user directory (for example, C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\Yourname)
IMPORTANT: Make a safe backup copy of PREFS.JS that you can revert to in case of any errors in the next steps.
Open PREFS.JS in a text editor (A shortcut is to right-click on PREFS.JS and choose Edit).
Add the following two lines to the end of PREFS.JS:
Save PREFS.JS and close it.
Notes/Domino Version: 5.x
